Thwarted by Paper Mario
I don't know where else to post this question to. I'm not allowed to post anything at lj gamers for some reason, and I can't find a gamecube community.
I got stuck at the Smorg boss on Paper Mario Thousand Year Door. My character is at level 22, and I've used all my coins to buy mushrooms and sweet syrups. I've seen walkthroughs on youtube, but they're all super powered and they knock the boss out in a couple rounds. Is it possible for me to get smorg on a low level, or do I have to start over from the beginning?

Gun Smoke for NES
Howdy, played the NES version of Gun Smoke and while I invite the power up shops you can use t ofurther gameplay, it is quite strange that you use your own score as currency in order to buy said power-ups.

But a good addition over its Arcade counterpart I admit.

The beginning of something interesting.
Howdy, y'all! I've decided to start a blog for rants and things; I simply have nowhere else to rant. I suppose I should rant about something, then...
Something about video games?

Megaman X Street Fighter
Seems there are a lot of good fanmade 8 Bit games out there. Megaman X Street Fighter uses the same NES style of classic Megaman games and adds very well edited SF characters as the Robot Masters in this game. Each Robot Master here makes his Super Special move every now and then and you can absorb a weapon in relation to that certain Street Fighter when you defeat them. Really dig it.

Megaman 7 NES rendition (Rockman 7)
For those who agonized while playing Megaman 7 for the SNES, there was a ROM made version that stayed more faithful to the classic formula in the old days of NES lore.

My advice is that you may want to mute it since the guy playing through it loves to use NSFW language, but it is your call.

Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia (Legend of Zelda's 25th Anniversary)

Dark Horse books released Hyrule Historia this month, a 272-page tome which details the 16 titles in The Legend of Zelda series all the way from the NES versions to Skyward Sword. Artwork includes the various portrayals of Link and Zelda throughout the series including concept art as well as other characters and creatures. Historia delves deeper into the Zelda mythos revealing various canon elements throughout the games.

The Legend of Zelda celebrates 25 years since its release of the first NES 8 Bit title.

The CD has also been released prior to the tome, music is orchestrated and includes tracks from all games as well:

I plan to get mine next month if the tome is still avialable.

Happy New Year NES fans
I would like to wish you the best this year has to bring and also that your love for the NES still be strong. I am offering this as a nostalgic nod to Castlevania 2 Simon's Quest which had some of the greatest tracks of all the series in said system. Enjoy this track from the game!

Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition emulted on the NES
One of the many odd roms I had found, but not very playable. No matter who you choose, you will play against an opponent who mimics what you do, and the second contender will always be Chun Li. After that, you start all over again without ever advancing through the game.

My Memoirs about the original SMB Trilogy on the NES
I remember the time I played the first Super Mario Bros. game on the NES in a house belonging to my father's friend. As with many kids who first tried it, I knew nothing about having to press the button to jump on an enemy being Mario's stablished attack and ran straight into the first Goomba that you meet in the game. Well, of course I learned from that embarrased episode and played it until I was dead tired of trying to beat the game and not being able to go through it all (I didn't learned about the Warp Pipes until much later). Between that time and the time I finally owned an NES, I already had played the sequels, SMB2 being on an arcade in Mexico (Over there they set up NES games into arcade cabinets and each token gives you about 10 minutes or so of playtime until it pauses and you have the choice of continuing or just leave it). I chose Toad for some strange reason and of coursze, jumping on enemies now didn't do a thing unless you picked them up and toss them to other foes. I lost interest and left the game until SMB3 came about. Wow, what a marvel that game was, now that I was more or less used to platformers I was enjoying Mario's new powers such as the Leaf Power Up that allowed you to fly momentarily and battling Bowser's underlings, the Koopalings in each world. I never saw The Wizard so I learned about SMB3 in an arcade like I did many other NES games at that time.

Well, years later I was now an NES owner, but by then the SNES has already been stablished and father bought it because he was a cheap bastard and didn't knew the difference between gaming consoles. It was all good, I enjoyed having all the SMB games plus some more and didn't had to waste money on tokens anymore. Of course my cousins in any other visit would bring their SNES and mock me and how SMB looked like in its 8 Bit glory, but I shrugged it off and silently told them off in my mind after they went back to their little home in the middle of nowhere, Texas.

Of course I enjoyed SMW but I still owned the NES and was content with the first Mario games on it. After I moved on and finally got a job as a High School kid, I bought the Sega Genesis and enjoyed Sonic games on it, but then later on I got an SNES and brought home not only SMW but also Super Mario All Stars which had the first SMB games in 16 Bit and the "lost levels" which I learned it was the Japanese version of SMB2.

Funny thing is, I ALREADY played that game as well, back in Mexico in an arcade building annd it was the 8 Bit original, whose Japanese title I never could had known it was the sequel to the original. Ah, well yes, it was tough as nails and getting the Poison Mushroom thinking it was a Power Up felt very cruel.
But as it is, the classic SMB NES trilogy is what keeps me coming back to the series, I also had played the classic Mario Bros. which comes as a minigame in SMB3 and in all GBA versions of these classics.

I'll leave you with a clip from all three games as I played them briefly, sayonara.

Get More Lives at the beginning of Double Dragon 2
To start with more lives, begin a two player game in Mode B (the one where players can hurt each other) and after getting rid of those pesky ruffians in the screen, begin beating your Double Dragon twin until he is completely out of lives. For each life he loses, you gain it.

Hello fellow NES fans and gamers...
I am now the new owner of this gaming community and am pleased and thankful the last owner granted me this. I will do my best o keep it lively and will post thoughts, videos, tips, and anything else I may come accross about the best 8-Bit gaming console ever created.

Of course, everyone in here may do the same and we can keep this community going, I am happy to be full part of it now.

NES forever.

Current Mood: happy
